The Isar reservoir is just a few minutes' walk from the center of Krün. The body of water in the Bavarian part of the Karwendel mountains is an artificial water reservoir and is used to generate energy. The dam was built in 1924, from where the water from the Isar is diverted into the Isar Canal.
